The Medieval Period, also known as the Middle Ages, started sometime around the 5th century and lasted into the 15th century. The major events which happened during this period include the fall of the Western Roman Empire, large-scale European Migration, the establishment of Islamic empires in the Indian subcontinent, and the conquests of Mongolia’s Golden Horde. Concepts such as feudalism, codes of chivalry, and courtly love were formed in the Medieval Period. Some of the famous people associated with the Middle Ages were Chaucer, Dante, Justinian, Giotto, Thomas Aquinas, Fibonacci, Oresme, Marco Polo, Clovis, Charlemagne, and Pope St. Gregory VII. The Middle Ages was a time of wars and great battles so it’s common to hear such terms like knights, castles, armor, weapons, torture, and so on. From 1096 to 1291, a number of Crusades were carried out to reclaim Christian lands from Islam and other occupants. The largest empires in the Medieval Period were the Mongol Empire, the Empire of the Caliphate, Ming Empire, Tang Empire, Chola Empire, and the Sassanid Empire.
