So what exactly are costume accessories? Accessories include footwear, hosiery, undergarments, jewelry and other types of props that go with costumes. Hats, masks and wigs fall into categories of their own and are not considered accessories on this website.

Take the pirate costume for example. It may come with pants, jacket, shirt, belt and a hat with an attached wig. Sounds like a complete costume, and it is, but it could always be improved with accessories. You can add pirate boots, a sword, a parrot for your shoulder, an eye patch, skull & crossbone jewelry, sashes, booty purses, bandanas and even a hook hand.
